Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: 25 April 2026

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") sets out the activities you may not carry out using SurfNode services. It applies to every account, server, website, and service we provide. Breach of this AUP may result in immediate suspension or termination without refund.

1. Prohibited Content

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — reported to authorities and the IWF.
  • Material that incites violence, terrorism, or hatred against a protected group.
  • Content that infringes intellectual property rights you do not own or licence.
  • Pirated software, cracked games, or unlicensed media distribution.
  • Malware, phishing kits, exploit kits, or stolen data dumps.

2. Prohibited Activities

  • Sending unsolicited bulk email (spam) or operating snowshoe / hit-and-run mailers.
  • Port scanning, vulnerability scanning, or attacking systems you do not own.
  • Originating, reflecting, or amplifying denial-of-service attacks.
  • Operating open proxies, open mail relays, or Tor exit nodes.
  • Cryptocurrency mining on shared web hosting plans.
  • Evading IP bans, account bans, or rate limits of third-party services.

3. Network & Resource Use

Shared hosting, game, and VPS plans are provisioned with fair-use limits. Sustained consumption that materially impacts other customers may result in throttling, an upgrade recommendation, or — in extreme cases — suspension.

4. Game Server Specific Rules

  • No DDoS-for-hire ("booter") or grief-as-a-service operations.
  • No hosting of plugins or mods that ship with known malware.
  • You are responsible for moderating your own community.

5. Reporting Abuse

Report suspected violations to abuse@surfnode.co.uk. Include URLs, IP addresses, timestamps (with timezone), and any supporting evidence. We review every report and respond within 24 hours.

6. Enforcement

Depending on severity we may issue a warning, suspend the offending service, or terminate the account. Severe violations (CSAM, active attacks) result in immediate termination and may be referred to law enforcement.
