Best Rust Server Hosting UK 2026: Specs, Wipes & Performance Guide
Rust is a brutal game to host well. Unlike Minecraft, where a 4 GB Paper server hums along with 20 players, a Rust server with the same population will burn through 8 GB of RAM, hammer a single CPU core, and fall over the moment someone builds a 3,000-entity base. If you're setting up a UK Rust community in 2026, the wrong host doesn't just mean lag — it means your players quit on wipe day. Here's what actually matters.
How much RAM does a Rust server really need?
Rust's memory footprint scales with map size, entity count and population — not just player slots. As a UK 2026 rule of thumb:
- 8 GB RAM — up to ~30 players on a 3,500-size map. Small friends/community server, mid-wipe entity counts.
- 10 GB RAM — up to ~50 players on 3,500–4,000 maps. The sweet spot for most UK communities.

Save-file writes on a 4,000-size map with 50 players can hit 500 MB every 5 minutes. On SATA SSDs (let alone HDDs), the save I/O causes visible tick lag. NVMe Gen4 is the current baseline — Gen5 is overkill but doesn't hurt. Ask your host directly; "SSD" is not a specific enough answer in 2026.

Generic "DDoS protection" isn't enough — you need game-aware filtering that understands the Rust protocol and can drop malformed UDP packets without dropping legitimate players.
